Activity: Unilever Sustainable Consumption Practices
Since 2010, Unilever has been committed to ten year sustainable plan: Unilever Sustainable Living Plan. They are not only aiming for being more responsible on the company's operations but also how their consumers use their products. Their plan is divided into three main categories: Improving health and well-being, reducing environmental impact and enhancing livelihoods. They have a total of seven goals.
For improving health and well-being they have two goals: health & hygiene and improving nutrition . Unilever wants to assure the hygiene habits and safe drinking water for over a billion people. By doing this, they can reduce life-threatening diseases. As for improving nutrition, the company is constantly improving the taste and the quality of their products meeting the highest nutritional standards.
For reducing environmental impact they have three goals: greenhouse gases, water and waste. These basically consist on reducing the production of these three by consumers. Reducing the greenhouse gases produced in manufacturing and from washing clothes. Reducing water use in laundry and manufacturing process. Recycling packaging, reducing manufacturing and office waste.
Finally, to enhance livelihoods, meaning farmers, they have two goals: sustainable sourcing and better livelihoods. They are committed to supporting farmers and gradually using 100% of all raw materials sustainably. They'll support small-scale distributors and farmers to assure sustainability of the sources.
